Snakebite envenomation is a neglected tropical disease causing severe mortality and morbidity across rural India. Officially designated as a high-risk medical emergency, India accounts for approximately 58,000 deaths annually out of an estimated 1.4 million envenomations. The vast majority of venomous bites occur during agricultural operations and monsoon months (June to October) when heavy rains flood snake burrows. Over 90% of lethal envenomations are inflicted by the "Big Four" venomous snake species: Spectacled Cobra (Naja naja), Common Krait (Bungarus caeruleus), Russell's Viper (Daboia russelii), and Saw-scaled Viper (Echis carinatus).
